Help Children Express How They Want to Be Cared for in Case They Become Seriously Ill
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn.-- Janet Ruth from Caregiving in America magazine joined us to discuss "My Wishes", a pediatric version of Five Wishes, a popular advance directive available from Aging with Dignity.
"My Wishes" isn't a legal document but a booklet to use for discussion with children on how they want to be treated if they get very sick.
There are four "wishes" to discuss:
1. My Wishes for: How I want people to treat me
2. My Wishes for: How comfortable I want to be
3. My Wishes for: What I want my loved ones to know
4. My Wishes for: What I want my doctors and nurses to know.
The booklet contains pages to color and pages to record a child's personal wishes. The information was developed by the My Wishes subcommittee of the Pediatric Palliative Team at Central DuPage Hospital, and supported by The Central DuPage Hospital Auxiliary.
